Short description

RMS Titanic — 266-piece 3D jigsaw puzzle — Revell LED Edition

Recreate the majestic silhouette of the RMS Titanic with this illuminated 3D jigsaw puzzle from Revell. Comprising 266 pieces, this model recreates the famous transatlantic liner with its four funnels, various decks, superstructures and black hull topped with a white stripe.

Once assembled, the Titanic measures approximately 87.9 cm in length, 29.4 cm in height and 9.6 cm in width. Its generous dimensions allow you to appreciate the ship’s many printed details and make it a truly decorative piece once assembled.

The pre-cut pieces are made from rigid EPS foam and slot together. No glue or model-making tools are required, making the build more accessible than a traditional plastic model. The estimated assembly time is over four hours.

This edition stands out for its integrated LED lighting system. Once switched on, the lights illuminate the portholes and upper decks in particular, evoking the appearance of the liner sailing across the North Atlantic at night. The system runs on two 1.5 V AA/LR6 batteries, which are not included.

Part construction puzzle, part display model, this reproduction is aimed at enthusiasts of maritime history, famous ships and three-dimensional creations. Its lighting allows it to be displayed both during the day and in a dimly lit room.

Origin and historical context

The RMS Titanic was a British transatlantic liner operated by the White Star Line. Built in Belfast by Harland and Wolff shipyards, it belonged to the Olympic class alongside its sister ships, the Olympic and the Britannic. Its hull was launched on 31 May 1911 after several years of construction.

With an actual length of approximately 269 metres, the Titanic was the largest passenger liner in service at the time of its maiden voyage. Its design combined substantial passenger capacity with particularly luxurious facilities, including lounges, restaurants, a swimming pool, a gymnasium and cabins for the wealthiest passengers.

The ship left Southampton on 10 April 1912 for its maiden voyage to New York. After stopovers in Cherbourg and Queenstown – now Cobh – it continued its crossing of the North Atlantic with more than 2,200 passengers and crew on board.

During the night of 14–15 April 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg. The damage to the hull led to the gradual flooding of several watertight compartments, and the liner sank in the early hours of 15 April. Around 1,500 people lost their lives in the disaster.

The sinking highlighted, in particular, the insufficient number of places available in the lifeboats. The disaster helped to strengthen international regulations concerning maritime safety, round-the-clock radio monitoring and ice surveillance in the North Atlantic.

The wreck of the Titanic was located in 1985 on the seabed of the North Atlantic. Since its discovery, it has been the subject of numerous scientific expeditions and remains an important memorial site dedicated to the victims of the sinking.

Thanks to its large size and LED lighting, this Revell 3D jigsaw puzzle recreates the night-time appearance of the liner before the disaster, when the lights on its decks and portholes still illuminated its silhouette in the middle of the ocean.
