Wired, wireless or Bluetooth?
Wired — zero latency, no battery, no pairing. The right choice for gaming and for a fixed desk where a cable does not bother you.
Wireless with a USB receiver — the receiver goes in a port and the mouse works immediately, on any computer. The most convenient general solution.
Bluetooth — it occupies no USB port, which matters on a laptop with few of them, and it also pairs with tablets. Note that on some machines reconnection after idling takes a second.
Size and grip matter more than DPI
Advertised DPI figures are among the least useful criteria — nobody plays or works at maximum values. What you will feel daily is the size relative to your palm.
If your hand covers the whole mouse, you want a larger body. If you hold it with your fingertips, a smaller and lighter one will tire you less. A mouse that does not fit your hand cannot be fixed by any setting.
When you need an ergonomic mouse
If your wrist aches or your fingers go numb by the end of the day, the problem is the position of your hand. Vertical mice hold the wrist in a natural position, as when shaking hands, rather than twisted downwards.
It takes a week to adapt and after that most people do not go back. Alternatively, a mouse pad with a wrist rest helps without changing your habits.

- How much DPI do I need?
- Less than you think. Most people work comfortably far below the advertised maximum. Size and weight matter far more.
- Wireless receiver or Bluetooth?
- A USB receiver for a solid connection to a computer. Bluetooth if you want to keep the port free or also pair with a tablet.
- My wrist hurts. What should I get?
- Try a vertical ergonomic mouse, which holds the wrist in a natural position. It takes a few days to get used to.
- Does it work on a glass desk?
- Most optical mice struggle on glass. A mouse pad solves it immediately.
- How long do the batteries last?
- On wireless models with AA cells, often many months. On rechargeable ones, weeks per charge.
Choose based on your hand, not on the numbers. And add a mouse pad — it costs very little and noticeably changes the movement.
