DualSense controllers
The DualSense is the PS5 controller and the most requested accessory here — either as a second pad for playing with company or as a replacement. It comes in many colours and editions.
Two things to know: the battery lasts around six hours, so a charging dock is close to essential with two pads. And the Edge edition adds swappable sticks and per-game profiles for competitive play.
The other essentials
- Expansion SSD — the PS5 takes an M.2 NVMe Gen4 with its own heatsink. It is the only fix once internal storage fills — PS5 games will not run from external USB.
- Headsets — Pulse 3D models make use of the console 3D audio. Any wired headset works through the controller jack.
- Charging docks — charge two DualSense pads at once without occupying a console USB port.
- Covers and stands — change the look or hold the console upright — check whether they are for the Disc or Digital Edition.
- Carry cases — useful if you move the console or controllers around.

Frequently asked questions
- How long does the DualSense battery last?
- Around six hours, depending on the game and haptic use. With two pads, a charging dock saves the constant hunt for a cable.
- What SSD does the PS5 take?
- An M.2 NVMe Gen4 with a heatsink. The heatsink is required — without it the drive overheats. Many models have one built in.
- Can I play PS5 games from an external drive?
- No. PS5 games run only from the internal drive or an installed expansion SSD. External USB is for storage and for PS4 games.
- Do the accessories fit the PS5 Pro?
- Controllers, headsets and charging docks yes. Covers and some stands are designed for a specific model — check compatibility.
- Does a PS4 controller work on PS5?
- Only for PS4 games. PS5 titles require a DualSense because they use its specific features.
- Do I need a special headset?
- No. Any wired headset plugs into the controller. Sony wireless models add 3D audio without a cable.
- Can I collect my order from the shop?
- Yes, choose collection at checkout, with no shipping cost.
The two things that run out first
Controller battery and drive space. A charging dock and an expansion SSD solve both permanently.
