Do DS games play on a 3DS?

Yes. The 3DS and 2DS read DS cards normally. The reverse is not true: a 3DS card will not play on an older DS.

Are they region locked?

3DS games are — a European console will not play American or Japanese cards. DS games have no restriction at all.

What is the difference between 2DS and 3DS?

The 2DS plays the same games without the stereoscopic 3D display. Card compatibility is identical.

Do they play on a Switch?

No. The Switch is not compatible with DS or 3DS cards — it is an entirely different platform.

Why buy a physical card?

Because Nintendo eShop for these consoles has closed. For many titles, a physical card is now the only route.

Do I need a stylus?

Many games use the touch screen. A stylus comes with the console but is easily lost — replacements are available.
