What an older car gains
A fifteen-year-old car in good condition does not need replacing — it needs a head unit that does what a new one does.
What genuinely changes: calls without touching a phone, which is both a safety and a legal compliance matter; music from your phone instead of CDs; and navigation on a screen instead of a phone stuck to the dashboard.
Models with phone projection support show your phone’s maps and music directly on the screen — which is the feature with the greatest real value today.
Before ordering: three checks
1. Aperture size. There are two main standards — single and double height. Check what your dashboard has; a double unit will not fit a single aperture without modification.
2. Fascia and trim. Every car model needs a specific adapter fascia so it looks factory-fitted. It is not always in the box.
3. Wiring plug. You need a wiring adapter for your specific model. Without it, factory wiring gets cut — which is wrong and complicates every future change.
And a warning: in newer cars, the screen also controls other functions — climate, settings, camera. There, replacement is not simple and needs a specialist. Tell us the model and year and we will tell you what is possible.
And the sound
A new head unit improves the sound, but the factory speakers remain the limit. If you want a real difference, the order is: speakers first, then an amplifier.
