What a working system needs

The three parts are not optional — and one without the other gives half a solution.

Cameras. Where the image is made. The choice of resolution and angle decides what will be visible.

Recorder. Where the image stays. Without one you only see live — and an incident you did not record does not exist.

Installation. Cables, power and mounts. This is where most systems fail, not in the equipment.

The categories

The three mistakes that make a system useless

1. Wrong angle. A camera facing the sun or a bright window turns every face into a silhouette. No resolution fixes it — only position.

2. Too high. A camera at four metres shows heads and shoulders, not faces. For identification you need a lower height and a narrower angle. For general overview, high and wide.

3. Undersized power supply. Cameras restart at night when the infrared illumination switches on — and you lose recording at exactly the hours that matter.

And a fourth that is not a mistake but an omission: change the factory password on cameras and recorder. They are among the most common targets online.

Frequently asked questions

Do I definitely need a recorder?
If you want to see what happened rather than only what is happening now, yes. Some cameras record locally to a card, but with limited storage.
How high should I mount the camera?
For identifying faces, lower and with a narrower angle. For general overview, high and wide.
Why do faces come out dark?
Backlight. It is fixed by mounting angle, not by a more expensive camera.
What warranty do they carry?
Most cameras 24 months, with 112 reaching three years. Among recorders, 31 of 61 have three years.
Are they safe from hackers?
Only if you change the factory password and keep the firmware updated. That is necessary, not optional.

Choose cameras, recorder and installation together — and give weight to the mounting angle, because that decides whether the system shows anything useful.
