Mouse pad or desk mat?
Classic mouse pad. It covers the mouse area. Enough for office work and for anyone who works with small wrist movements.
Desk mat. A large surface that holds keyboard and mouse together. Two advantages: the mouse glides evenly across its whole travel, and the desk is protected from scratches, spills and marks. If you play at low sensitivity with large arm movements, it is the only sensible option.
The gift page
A large part of this category sells not as equipment but as a gift. The ranges from Grupo Erik, FanaTtik, Paladone, Abystyle and Sakami are officially licensed designs from games, films and anime.
They are among the safest small gifts there are: they fit any computer, you need no technical knowledge, and if you know what someone plays or watches, you cannot really miss.
What to check in the material
Cloth — the usual choice. A soft feel, good control when stopping a movement, and washable. Hard surface — faster glide and longer life, but noisier.
Non-slip base: if the pad moves around while you work, it defeats its own purpose. A rubber base is the criterion.
Stitched edges: they stop the cloth fraying where your wrist rubs. It is the difference between one year and five.
