The case is not decoration
It is the component that sets the limits for everything else. It determines which board size it accepts, how long a graphics card fits, how tall a cooler it allows and what radiator size it can mount.
And then it determines something you live with daily: how much air the system gets and how much noise you hear. A case with free airflow and the right fans keeps components cool without them having to spin flat out.

The numbers to note before ordering
Before choosing a case, write down four things: the board size, the graphics card length in millimetres, the cooler height, and how many mechanical drives you will fit.
The fourth surprises most people: current cases have far fewer 3.5-inch bays than older ones, because M.2 drives take no space. If you keep archives on mechanical drives, count them.

Frequently asked questions
- Which case fits my motherboard?
- A case accepts its own size and everything smaller. An ATX case takes ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX; a micro-ATX case does not take ATX.
- How many fans do I need?
- Two or three at the front for intake and one at the rear for exhaust covers most systems. More fans at low speed are quieter.
- Are fans included with the case?
- Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and the number varies widely. It is a real cost — check the specifications.
- How many hard drives does it hold?
- Current cases have fewer 3.5-inch bays than older ones. If you use mechanical drives, count them before choosing.
Choose the case last, once you know what goes inside — and do not forget the fans, the cheapest component with the biggest effect on noise.
