The major lines
Squishmallows are the most recognisable line of recent years: round, extremely soft, with simple faces and named characters. They come in many sizes and are collected like figures.
Youtooz — best known for vinyl figures — also runs a plush line in limited drops. Good Smile Company covers anime characters, while Play By Play, Simba and Jazwares handle the classic children franchises.
Before you buy
- Size — listed in centimetres — a 30 cm plush is noticeably bigger than photos suggest.
- Age — collectible plush is not always suitable for infants; check the marking.
- Washing — most by hand or in a laundry bag on a cold cycle.
- Limited runs — Youtooz and some anime plush are not reissued.

- Can they be washed?
- Most can, by hand or in a laundry bag on a cold cycle, then air dried. Avoid the tumble dryer. Those with electronics or glued eyes should be spot cleaned only.
- Are they suitable for babies?
- Not all. Collectible plush often has small or stitched components. The age marking is on the packaging.

A plush of the right character works at any age — and unlike clothing, it needs no size. Just watch the centimetres: photos give no sense of scale.
