Wicked is perhaps the simplest franchise in the shop when it comes to choosing a gift. Everything divides into two colours:

What Wicked is – and what it is not
Many people do not realise: Wicked is the backstory to The Wizard of Oz.
It tells what happened before Dorothy arrived – how the two witches met as students, how they became friends, and what led one of them to be branded "wicked".
It is a musical: the characters sing, and the songs are part of the story. It began as a Broadway show in 2003, based on a 1995 novel.
The two films – and the story is complete
The story was split across two films, directed by Jon M. Chu, with Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Wicked (2024) – $755 million worldwide and ten Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
Wicked: For Good (November 2025) – it opened to $226 million worldwide: the biggest opening in history for a musical adaptation.
Together the two passed $1.3 billion.
And the story ends there. There is no third film to wait for – whatever you buy relates to a completed story.
The costumes – something that rarely happens
Wicked prompted something unusual: people went to the cinema in costume.
Pink or green, depending on which witch they backed. Whole groups coordinated their outfits.
