Where a fan heater wins
On speed. A fan heater warms a small space in minutes, because it blows hot air rather than waiting to radiate heat.
That makes it the right choice in specific cases: a bathroom before a shower, an office you use for two hours, a room you want warm now rather than in half an hour.
Where it loses: on continuous heating. It consumes a lot, dries the air and makes noise. To keep a room warm all day, an oil radiator is clearly more suitable.
A bathroom needs a specific model
This is where the choice is not about comfort but safety. A bathroom has moisture and water, and an ordinary electrical appliance there is a hazard.
You need a model with an explicit moisture protection rating for bathroom use. And never near the bath or shower, nor anywhere it could fall into water.
Safety and correct use
Straight into the wall socket. Never into a power strip or extension lead — it draws high current and the cable overheats. It is among the most common causes of fire from a household appliance.
Distance from fabrics. Curtains, sofas, clothes drying — nothing in front of the air outlet. And never used to dry clothes placed on it.
Tip-over and overheat protection. Two features that must be present: the first shuts the unit off if it falls, the second if the airflow is blocked.
Never left on unattended, and never all night in a bedroom. For the night, an electric blanket is both safer and far more economical.
