The power supply decides everything
In any installation with an LED strip, the power supply is what the motor is to an appliance — and it is the first thing at fault when something goes wrong.
Three symptoms, one cause: the strip is dimmer towards the end, the supply buzzes or runs hot, or it cuts out after a while. In all three cases it is undersized.
The calculation is simple: consumption per metre times the metres, plus a margin. A supply running at its limit heats up and does not last.
And mind the voltage: strips run at a specific voltage. The wrong supply destroys the strip immediately.
Aluminium profiles: why they are not decorative
A profile does three things, and none of them is aesthetic.
It dissipates heat. The most important. A strip stuck to wood or plasterboard has nowhere to send its heat — and heat is the number one reason LEDs lose brightness prematurely. Aluminium works as a heatsink.
It diffuses the light. The matt cover turns visible dots into a continuous line. It is the answer if your strip is visible and you do not like the look.
It protects. From dust, knocks and coming unstuck.
Connectors and control
Connectors. They let you join strip sections without soldering — and they are the correct solution at a corner, where bending breaks the conductors.
Controllers and dimmers. For adjusting brightness and colour. Note that the controller must match the strip type — single colour, RGB or tunable white.
