Citrus press or juicer?
They are two entirely different appliances that often get confused.
Citrus press. For citrus only — orange, lemon, grapefruit. Cut in half, press, done. Small, cheap, washes in seconds. For a daily orange juice it is exactly right and you need nothing bigger.
Juicer. For apples, carrots, beetroot, celery, cucumber and hard fruit. It shreds and spins, separating juice from pulp. Larger, more powerful and with more parts to wash.
The truth about cleaning
Let us say it plainly, because it is why half of all juicers end up in a cupboard: the pulp filter needs washing immediately. Leave it an hour and it dries and becomes difficult.
In practice, that means being realistic about how often you will do it. If you drink orange juice every morning, a citrus press — washed in ten seconds — will actually get used. A large juicer will get used three times.
A tip that helps: rinse the parts with cold water right after use, even if you wash them properly later.
Before buying a juicer
Feed opening. Models with a wide chute take a whole apple, so you do not have to cut everything first. It is a large difference in preparation time.
Pulp container. A bigger container means you do not stop halfway to empty it.
Noise. Centrifugal juicers are loud. If you make juice early in the morning in a flat, bear it in mind.
