Why homemade ice cream is a different thing
You control everything: how much sugar, which milk or plant drink, which fruit, no colourings and no preservatives. For children with allergies or anyone watching sugar, that is a substantive difference rather than a detail.

With a pre-frozen bowl. The bowl goes in the freezer for 12 to 24 hours before use. Affordable and small, but it requires planning — you cannot decide on ice cream at nine in the evening. And it makes one batch at a time.
With a built-in compressor. It chills itself, with no preparation. You make ice cream whenever you want and batch after batch. It costs considerably more and is larger — but it is the one that actually gets used all summer.
Realistically, how much will you use it?
It is a seasonal appliance. It works from June to September and then goes in a cupboard. That is not a drawback — you just need to know it before choosing a size and a price.
If you have children, the use multiplies: ice cream becomes an activity rather than merely a dessert.
