Infinity Castle and its records

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle opened in Japan on 18 July 2025 – and broke one record after another.

  • The biggest opening in the history of Japanese cinema – surpassing even Mugen Train.
  • More than $779 million worldwide.
  • In Japan, the second highest-grossing domestic release of all time – behind only Mugen Train.

Its theatrical run continued for months, and it returned to cinemas in March 2026 in a special ScreenX format.

When Part 2 arrives

Not in 2026. Ufotable has confirmed it officially – Infinity Castle Part 2 is placed in 2027.

The third and final film of the trilogy is expected in 2029.

The reason is quality: the first part took roughly three and a half years of production. Ufotable does not compromise on animation, and the battles of the second part are among the most demanding in the entire manga.

Part 2 will adapt chapters 158 to 183. Dates move – we update this guide whenever something changes officially.

The story

Koyoharu Gotouge's manga concluded in 2020 at 23 volumes. The premise is simple, and stronger for it: a boy, Tanjiro, comes home to find his family slaughtered by a demon. Only his sister Nezuko survives – having been turned into a demon herself.

Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer for two reasons: to turn her back into a human, and to find who was responsible.

Why it took off: Ufotable's anime. The animation is widely regarded as among the finest ever produced for television – and it turned a good manga into a global phenomenon.

The characters

Tanjiro

The protagonist, in the green-and-black chequered haori.

Nezuko

His sister – a demon who does not attack humans. The most commercially popular character.

Zenitsu & Inosuke

His two companions – the terrified one and the feral one.

The Hashira

The nine elite swordsmen. Each has a following of their own – and their own sales.

On the other side stand Muzan and the Upper Ranks – Akaza, Doma and Kokushibo, who dominate the Infinity Castle trilogy.

The two designs that sell on their own

Demon Slayer has two patterns that work without a face and without a name:

  • The green-and-black chequer of Tanjiro's haori. It works on t-shirts, bags, socks – anywhere.
  • Nezuko's pink kimono with its hemp-leaf pattern.

These are the same qualities that make the Creeper and the Akatsuki so commercial: recognisable even to someone who has never watched the series.
