This “Luminous” edition particularly highlights the supernatural and striking appearance of Unit-01, whilst retaining its instantly recognisable biomechanical silhouette. The Evangelion Test Type-01, commonly known as EVA-01, is the iconic unit of the Evangelion franchise. Primarily piloted by Shinji Ikari, it is used by the NERV organisation to combat the mysterious creatures known as Angels.
Despite its appearance as a giant robot, the EVA-01 is in fact a biomechanical being encased within imposing armour. The pilot is connected to the unit via a highly sophisticated synchronisation system, which allows the Evangelion to replicate the pilot’s movements and react almost as if it were an extension of their own body.
The EVA-01 also stands out for several extraordinary displays throughout the series, notably when it enters a state often described as ‘Berserk’. At such times, the unit acts independently of its pilot and reveals a power and nature far more mysterious than those of a mere artificial weapon.
With its purple and green livery, its slender silhouette and its central role in Shinji’s destiny, the Evangelion Unit-01 has become one of the most recognisable creations in the history of Japanese animation. This Luminous version particularly emphasises the unit’s almost supernatural aspect and offers an original take on this now-iconic mecha.
