What a pressure washer does
It projects water at high pressure so that it lifts dirt instead of you scrubbing it. What would take an hour with a brush and detergent is finished in ten minutes.

What to watch for
Pressure cuts. That is not a figure of speech. At close range, a high-pressure jet scores wood, strips paint and injures skin. Never towards a person or animal, and always start from a distance, testing a small area.
Nozzles. A narrow nozzle gives maximum force at a point — for stubborn dirt on hard surfaces. A wide one covers area and is the safe choice for general use. For a car, always a wide nozzle and distance.
Water supply. The machine needs a steady feed. Connected to a low-flow tap or a long narrow hose, the pump runs intermittently and wears out.
Never without water. The pump is cooled by the water itself — a few seconds of dry running is enough to cause damage.
