What it does and why it is worth it

Bobbles form from friction — at the sides, under the arms, on the seat. They do not mean the garment has worn out; they mean the surface fibres have tangled.

A fabric shaver cuts them off and leaves the surface smooth. A jumper you were about to set aside goes back into the wardrobe after two minutes of work.

In practice, a device costing a few euro saves garments worth many times more — and it is one of the very few purchases whose benefit is visible on the first use.

How to use it properly

The garment flat and taut on a surface. Never while worn and never in the air — if the fabric folds, the blade can cut it.

Set the blade height. Low for fine fabrics, higher for thick knits. It is the feature that distinguishes a good device — and the protection against holes.

Circular movements with a light touch. No pressure. The device works under its own weight.

Empty the chamber regularly. Once full, the blade stops cutting properly.

And a warning: avoid very loose knits, lace and damaged garments. There the risk of pulling a thread is real.

Rechargeable or battery powered?

For occasional use, a battery model is enough and is always ready.

For regular use across many garments, a rechargeable has steadier power — and power drops noticeably on weak batteries, with the result that the blade pulls instead of cutting.
