Who it makes sense for
A mini system solves one specific problem: you want good sound in a room without choosing an amplifier, speakers and a source separately.
It arrives complete — amplifier, speakers and sources in one set matched by the manufacturer. You take it out of the box, connect it and it works.
It is the right choice for a bedroom, office, holiday house or second room — and for anyone who wants better sound than a television or a Bluetooth speaker without getting into system building.
It is not the right choice if you want to upgrade gradually. In a set, you do not change only the speakers — you change everything.
What to check
Bluetooth. Almost a given today, and it is how you will use it most of the time.
CD and radio. The reason someone chooses a mini system over a Bluetooth speaker. If you have a disc collection, it is the key criterion.
Input for an external source. Useful if you want to connect a television or a turntable. Note that a turntable needs either a dedicated input or its own preamp.
Separate or integrated speakers. Sets with separate speakers give a stereo image because you place them apart. All-in-one units take less space but the sound comes from one point.
