When the battery is at fault
The signs are clear: the laptop shuts down abruptly at 30-40% charge, the indicator drops from 60% to 5% within minutes, or the operating system warns that replacement is recommended.
A lithium battery has a finite number of charge cycles and then loses capacity — it is a consumable, not a fault. After three or four years of daily use, the decline is normal.
