Squishmallows – Size Guide & Characters
Why children collect them rather than owning one, what size to choose, and why the audience reaches far beyond children.

The tag that changed everything
Squishmallows launched in 2017, made by Jazwares. Soft, round, in pastel colours.
But that is not what set them apart. It was the tag.
Every Squishmallow has its own name, a birthday and a short story printed on its tag – what it loves, what it dreams of, who its friends are.
You are not buying "a plush frog". You are buying Ronald, who loves jazz and wants to be a musician.
Why this matters commercially: it is exactly why children collect rather than own one. The second is not "another plush" – it is a new character. Very few plush brands have managed that.
What size to buy
This is where most mistakes happen. The very same character comes in sizes from a few centimetres to over half a metre.
In a photograph they all look identical. The price difference is large – and the difference in the impression the gift makes is larger still.
In practice:
- Small: for a bag, keys, or a small gift.
- Medium: the safest choice for a gift – big enough to impress, without being unwieldy.
- Large: these double as a cushion or room decoration. Impressive, but they take up space.
There is also the HugMees range, with a flatter shape and larger arms.
The licensed ranges
Beyond their own characters, Squishmallows also appear with heroes from other universes: Pokémon, Disney, Hello Kitty, Star Wars and more.
This is very useful for a gift: it combines the child's favourite franchise with the Squishmallow form. A Pikachu in Squishmallow shape satisfies two interests at once.
Licensed ranges often launch around a film and in limited quantities – so they do not stay available indefinitely.
Why adults buy them too
It would be easy to file these as strictly for children. They are not.
They have a large following among teenagers and adults – people who hunt specific characters, complete ranges, and chase the rarer editions.
Practically: if you are buying for a teenager and do not know what to get, a Squishmallow is far more successful than it looks – especially if it is a character from something they already love.

Frequently asked questions
- Why do children collect them rather than owning one?
- Because each one is a distinct character, with its own name, birthday and a short story printed on the tag. The second is not "another plush" – it is a new friend.
- What size should I choose?
- The same character exists from a few centimetres to over half a metre, and photographs make them look identical. Check the dimensions. Medium is the safest choice for a gift.
- Are there Squishmallows of other franchises?
- Yes. Licensed ranges exist with characters from Pokémon, Disney, Hello Kitty, Star Wars and other universes. They are among the most reliable gift choices.
- What age are they for?
- They are soft, with no small parts, so they suit very young children – always check the packaging marking. At the same time they have a large following among teenagers and adults.
- Where can I find genuine Squishmallows in Thessaloniki?
- At the Techbox store (Al. Papanastasiou 100) and online at techbox.com.gr. You can order online and collect from the store with no shipping cost.
