Gizmo or monster? – mind this when buying
This confuses many people: Gizmo and the Gremlins are the same creature at different stages.
Gizmo is a Mogwai – brown and cream, with large ears and large eyes. Adorable. But when the rules are broken, Mogwai transform into Gremlins: green, toothed and ill-intentioned.
In practice for a gift: if the child asks for "the cute one", they mean Gizmo. A "gremlin" figure is the monster – an entirely different object.
The best known of the monsters is Stripe, with the white stripe on his head. He is the antagonist of the first film and very popular with collectors.
What age it is for – a telling piece of history
Gremlins looks like a children's film. It is not.
In 1984, Gremlins was one of the two films that led to the creation of the PG-13 rating in the United States. Parents complained that it was too harsh for the children's category of the time.
It has scenes that frighten young children. It suits ten and up.
The Gizmo products, however – plush, figures – are entirely innocent and suitable for any age.
The third film – at last
Gremlins 3 – 19 November 2027
Officially confirmed by Warner Bros. It will be the first film in the series in thirty-seven years.
It is directed by Chris Columbus – the man who wrote the original screenplay in 1984, and who went on to direct Home Alone and the first Harry Potter films.
Steven Spielberg, producer of both earlier films, returns as executive producer.
Filming begins during the summer of 2026. The release is positioned precisely ahead of the 2027 holiday season – and that is no accident.
