Onimusha — Way of the Sword and the Capcom series
The samurai action series that began on PS2 in 2001 has returned after twenty years. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launched on 4 September 2026 and passed one million sales on day one. Here you will find the game for every console and the series’ collectibles.

What Way of the Sword is
The hero is Miyamoto Musashi, the legendary swordsman, who after an ambush wakes with the Oni Gauntlet bound to his arm — a weapon that lets him slay the Genma, the demons overrunning Edo-era Kyoto. Facing him too is his eternal rival, Sasaki Ganryu.
The game focuses on grounded sword combat: parries, precise timing and lethal strikes. It is neither open world nor a punishing souls-like — it offers a Story Mode and an Action Mode, so both story players and challenge seekers are covered.
Which edition to buy
In our store you will find the Standard edition on disc for PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2, plus the Lenticular Edition for PS5, with a collectible cover that changes image with the viewing angle. The game is the same — the difference is the packaging.
The digital Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions add cosmetics only: outfits, sword and Oni Gauntlet designs, and charms. No edition gives early access or extra missions, so if you simply want to play, the Standard is enough.
The series and its collectibles
Onimusha began with Warlords in 2001 and was one of the first big action games on PS2. Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny returned as a remaster in 2025, preparing the ground for the series’ comeback.
Following the success of Way of the Sword, collectible makers have started announcing products — Hiya Toys has already shown a Musashi figure. Whatever is released will be added to this page.

- What is different about the Lenticular Edition?
- It has a collectible lenticular cover that changes image depending on the angle you view it from. The game inside is the same as the Standard.
- Do I need to have played the older Onimusha games?
- No. Way of the Sword has its own self-contained story with a new hero, Miyamoto Musashi.
- Is it a difficult game?
- It has two levels: Story Mode for those who want the story and Action Mode for those who want a challenge, plus extra assist settings. It is not a souls-like.
- Are there Onimusha figures?
- The first ones have been announced, such as Hiya Toys’ Musashi figure. When they are released, they will be added to this page. Until then there are keychains, a wall scroll and an acrylic stand.
