Character background and universe (Lore)

Rei Ayanami is one of the central figures in the Evangelion saga. She is portrayed as the pilot ofEvangelion Unit-00 and bears the title ‘First Girl’ or ‘First Child’, depending on the version of the work. The official website forEvangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance describes her as a quiet young girl who shows very little emotion and pilots the EVA-00.

Rei immediately stands out for her extremely reserved demeanour. She speaks little, seems detached from her surroundings and, initially, has limited interaction with the other characters.

Her encounter with Shinji Ikari, however, helps her behaviour to gradually evolve. As they undertake missions together, Rei begins to show more emotion and to develop a more complex relationship with those around her. The official website specifically mentions the changes that begin to emerge in her following her interaction with Shinji.

Her role, however, extends far beyond that of a mere pilot. Rei is deeply connected to the secrets of NERV, Gendo Ikari and the Evangelion project, making her true identity one of the great mysteries explored throughout the saga.

The plugsuit she wears is the suit specially designed for piloting the Evangelions. It accompanies Rei during her synchronisations with Unit-00 and is one of the most recognisable elements of her design.

Her minimalist appearance, enigmatic demeanour and the unique nature of her existence have made Rei Ayanami one of the most influential and instantly recognisable characters in the history of Japanese animation.

This FIGURIZMα figurine captures precisely this now-iconic image: Rei in her pilot’s suit, calm and aloof, directly associated with the Evangelions and the many mysteries surrounding NERV.
