What it is and what it replaces
An interactive display is a large touchscreen with a built-in computer. You write on it with a pen or finger, open files, play video, go online — all from the same place.
It replaces the board, the projector and the room computer at once. And it solves the classic projector problem: it needs no darkened room. A display is visible with the lights on and the curtains open, which in practice means it actually gets used.
A second advantage that shows in use: there is no lamp to burn out and no filter to clean. A projector has consumable costs; a display does not.
Where it is genuinely used
Schools and tutoring centres. The main market. The teacher writes, saves the lesson and sends it to the students — something a classic board cannot do.
Meeting rooms. Presentations, video conferencing and annotating the same document in real time.
Corporate training and reception areas. Information display when no presentation is running.
What to check before choosing
Size relative to the room. The most critical point. The student at the back desk must be able to read comfortably — a display that looks enormous in a shop is small in a room of thirty. Measure the distance to the last desk.
Number of touch points. It determines whether two or more people can write together. In group teaching it genuinely matters.
Built-in system or external computer. Displays with their own operating system work standalone. If you need specific software, check whether it accepts a PC module.
Mounting. These displays are heavy. The wall must take the weight, and in a room that changes layout a mobile stand is preferable to wall mounting.
