Wednesday arrived on Netflix in 2022 and immediately became the most popular English-language series in the platform's history.
Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams, sent to Nevermore Academy – a school for "outcasts", meaning monsters, werewolves and sirens.
The character is not a Netflix creation. The Addams Family began as a series of cartoons by Charles Addams in 1938 – almost ninety years ago.
The series is directed by Tim Burton, and it shows in every frame.
What age it is for – read this before buying
Wednesday's look – black braids, white collar, deadpan stare – appears charming. Many parents assume the series is for young children.
It is not. There are murders, monsters and genuinely frightening scenes. It is aimed at teenagers and adults.
Practically: Wednesday merchandise is bought mainly by teenagers and young adults. For younger children, choose something else.
Season three – what we know
Season two arrived in two parts during 2025. Season three was renewed before season two had even aired – an indication of how confident Netflix was.
Release: 2027
Filming began in February 2026 in Ireland, moving to Paris in April.
Almost three years will have passed between the second and third seasons.
New faces: Winona Ryder – who has worked with Burton since Beetlejuice – and Eva Green, as Aunt Ophelia.
Returning are Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Emma Myers (Enid) and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester).
A separate series about Uncle Fester has been discussed, but is not confirmed.
