What happened with Rebirth
Jurassic World Rebirth was released on 2 July 2025, directed by Gareth Edwards – of Rogue One.
The interesting part: it was written by David Koepp, the same writer behind the original 1993 Jurassic Park. He returned after thirty-two years.
In the story, Earth's environment has proved hostile to the dinosaurs – they survive only near the equator, where the climate resembles the prehistoric world.
The numbers, honestly
It took $869 million – the fourth highest-grossing film of 2025, and an Academy Award nominee for Visual Effects.
But it is also the first Jurassic World film not to reach a billion dollars. All three before it did. Reviews were mixed, with audiences warmer than critics.
What is coming
There are reports that the next film began production in the UK during 2026.
Universal has not confirmed it officially, and there is no release date or announced cast.

Why it lasted thirty-three years
In 1993, Steven Spielberg brought Michael Crichton's novel to the screen. And he did something that had never been done.
He combined digital effects with real animatronics – full-size mechanical dinosaurs. The combination gave the creatures weight. You believed they were there.
Why this matters commercially: it is precisely why dinosaurs sell independently of the films. Children love dinosaurs on their own – the film simply gave them a face. This is one of very few categories that does not depend on what is currently in cinemas.
