Which Groot? – the most common mistake
The child asks for "Groot". But there are three completely different ones, and they barely resemble each other:
Tall, tree-like. The original form – and again in the third film.
The tiny one, from the second film. By far the most popular – and the most requested in merchandise.
Mid-sized, surly, with a video game in his hands.
In practice: if you are unsure, ask whether he is small or large. In most cases they mean Baby Groot – he is the one who became a phenomenon.

The raccoon with the guns. The cleverest and the angriest of the group.
The green warrior.
The leader, with the red mask and the Walkman.
The grey one with the tattoos and the blue cybernetic one.
The music – something no other Marvel series has
The Guardians stand apart from the rest of the Marvel universe for one reason: the music.
Star-Lord carries with him from Earth a cassette of songs from the 1970s and 80s – the only thing left to him by his mother. The music is not background; it is part of the story.
Commercially: this is why there are products featuring cassettes, Walkmans and the mixtape artwork – designs that work without showing a character at all.
Where the team stands today
Let us be direct: the trilogy concluded in 2023, and the original team disbanded within that final film.
Star-Lord returned to Earth. Gamora left with the Ravagers. Drax and Nebula stayed behind to care for children they had rescued.
Rocket took over as leader of a new team, with Groot and several new faces.
The post-credits scenes carry a promise: "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return". No new film has been announced, however, and no appearance has been confirmed in Marvel's next major release.
The director of all three films, James Gunn, left Marvel and now runs DC Studios – the recent Superman film is his.
Why this does not affect demand: Groot and Rocket have outgrown the films. They sell to people who do not follow Marvel at all – Baby Groot works as an object in his own right, like a small sculpture.
