The one category where you do not need to ask
Most themes come with a trap: "which version?" Animated or live-action, old series or new, clean or stitched.
With Ghostbusters that problem does not exist.
The logo, the beige jumpsuits, the car and the equipment are essentially unchanged since 1984. The newer films kept them deliberately.
Whatever you pick, the recipient will recognise it – whether they saw the 1984 film or the 2024 one.
That is rare. Very few forty-year-old franchises have held the same imagery.
Five symbols – and none of them needs a face

The films – forty years in three phases
1984 and 1989: the two originals, from Ivan Reitman. Every symbol was born here.
2021 – "Afterlife": the series returned thirty years later, directed by Jason Reitman – the original director's son. It follows the Spengler family.
2024 – "Frozen Empire": the fifth film, with the original cast returning alongside the new generation.
There is also a 2016 remake with a female-led cast, which is a separate story and does not connect to the rest.
Is a sixth film coming? – the honest answer
It has not been confirmed.
The 2024 film did not perform as the studio hoped: it took around two hundred million dollars against a hundred-million budget, and was the worst-reviewed entry by critics in the whole series – though audiences received it far more warmly.
The creators speak generally about "more stories", but as late as early 2026 the lead actress said nothing had been announced to her.
What is genuinely in progress: an animated film and an animated series for Netflix, overseen by the same creators.
For collecting, nothing changes: the symbols do not depend on a new film. Whatever you buy today will be just as recognisable in ten years.
