From the books to the series
Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s series of novels: eight books, one for each sibling in the family. Their names run in alphabetical order, from Anthony to Hyacinth.
The Netflix series, from Shonda Rhimes’ production company Shondaland, premiered at Christmas 2020 and became one of the most popular in the platform’s history.
The seasons
Each season focuses on a different sibling: the first on Daphne, the second on Anthony, the third on Colin and Penelope, and the fourth, in 2026, on Benedict.
In 2023 the spin-off Queen Charlotte followed, about the young Queen Charlotte.
Lady Whistledown
Lady Whistledown is the anonymous author of a gossip sheet read by all of London’s high society. Her voice narrates the series, and her identity is one of the story’s greatest mysteries.
