The first time the Avengers assemble on the big screen since Endgame. And the largest gathering of heroes in Marvel's history.
Robert Downey Jr. returns – but not as Iron Man
The actor who launched the entire Marvel universe in 2008 comes back as Doctor Doom – the villain. It is among the boldest casting decisions ever made, and he first appeared in the mid-credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
And Chris Evans
His return as Steve Rogers was revealed in the first teaser – a surprise nobody expected.
Three universes together
For the first time, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men appear in one film. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen return, alongside Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Channing Tatum, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth and dozens more. Directed by the Russo brothers, of Infinity War and Endgame.

What order to watch them in
The MCU runs to more than forty films. If someone wants to start now, they do not need all of them:
- The core route: Iron Man (2008) → The Avengers (2012) → Infinity War (2018) → Endgame (2019). Four films that carry the whole arc.
- If you have time: add Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther.
- Before Doomsday: Fantastic Four: First Steps is worth it too, since Doctor Doom first appears there.
The history: the bet that paid off
In 2008 Marvel was a studio without marquee names. It had sold off the Spider-Man and X-Men rights, and was left with characters few people knew.
It bet on one of them – Iron Man – and on an actor Hollywood had largely written off: Robert Downey Jr.
Eighteen years later, the same actor returns as the universe's greatest villain – and the MCU is the highest-grossing franchise in the history of cinema.
