Seventy-five years – and the film has been reborn
Disney's animated film arrived in 1951. This year it turns seventy-five, and the anniversary has not gone unmarked.
Disney carried out a full 4K restoration of the film. The work took nine months: a digital scan of the original 1951 negatives, followed by clean-up of dust, warping and seven decades of wear.
The team consulted the original production artwork held in Disney's archive, so that the colours stayed faithful to what the filmmakers intended.
The restored film arrived in spring 2026, with screenings, exhibitions and educational programmes accompanying the anniversary.
And during 2026 a new Disney series set in Wonderland also arrived – Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, following on from "Rise of Red" in 2024.
Two visual worlds – and they look nothing alike
It is the first thing to notice in the products.
Bright and pastel. Round lines, soft colours, Alice in her blue dress. The classic.
Dark and gothic. Realistic textures, heavy make-up, a Mad Hatter with a chalk-white face.
