WINNIE THE POOH - Hunny - Magnetic Bookmark

This Pyramid International magnetic bookmark, officially licensed by Disney, is dedicated to Winnie the Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. The BEM’S product is marketed under the name ‘Hunny’, whilst the product’s design features a ‘Favourite Day’ scene in the classic Winnie the Pooh style. Compact and lightweight, the accessory attaches to a page using two magnetic surfaces. 

The illustration features a soft, watercolour-like style. Winnie is shown hanging from a red balloon near a large tree, whilst Piglet is perched on a branch. Eeyore and Tigger are depicted at the foot of the tree, thus bringing together several of the main inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood in a single composition.

The scene is accompanied by the phrase ‘Today is my new favourite day’, which reinforces the warm and optimistic feel of the illustration. The deliberately soft colours, dominated by white, green, brown and the red of the balloon, evoke the traditional illustrations associated with the Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

The bookmark folds around the edge of a page and the built-in magnets hold the two parts together. This system ensures the selected page is held securely in place and minimises the risk of losing the bookmark when the book is handled or carried.

Origin and character lore

Winnie-the-Pooh is a little bear who lives in the Hundred Acre Wood, where he shares his daily life with Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Little Guru and Christopher Robin. Disney portrays Winnie as a loyal friend to his neighbours, always ready to come to their aid despite his dreamy and sometimes absent-minded nature. 

Winnie is also famous for his immense love of food, and more specifically for his love of honey. The jars bearing the deliberately whimsical inscription ‘HUNNY’ have become one of the character’s most recognisable symbols and appear regularly in Disney adaptations. 

Piglet is one of his closest friends. Naturally shy and easily worried, he nevertheless regularly shows great courage when his companions need him. Tigger, on the other hand, stands out for his boundless energy and love of leaping, whilst Eeyore has a much calmer and more melancholic personality. These very different temperaments make up a large part of the group’s charm. 

The illustration on this bookmark brings together precisely these four characters in a peaceful scene around a tree and a balloon. It thus reflects one of the key themes of Winnie-the-Pooh: finding joy in simple moments spent with friends.
