Short description

Infinite Statue & Collectibles pays tribute to the comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy with this figurine inspired by the silent short film *The Second Hundred Years*, released in 1927. Crafted on a 1/3 scale, this collector’s item depicts the two actors in a scene directly inspired by one of their earliest collaborations as a comedy duo.

Crafted from hand-painted resin, the diorama faithfully captures the distinctive facial features and expressions of Laurel and Hardy, which are essential elements of their visual comedy. Origin and character background (Lore)

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are one of the best-known comedy duos in the history of cinema. Their partnership developed during the second half of the 1920s within Hal Roach’s productions, at a time when silent cinema relied heavily on physical comedy, facial expressions and visual rhythm to create its comic effects.

Released in 1927 and directed by Fred Guiol, *The Second Hundred Years* is a silent short film of around 20 minutes starring Laurel, Hardy and James Finlayson. The film follows two prisoners attempting to escape by digging a tunnel. Their attempt quickly turns into a disaster when they emerge in the warden’s office, before they set about finding another way to evade the authorities.

The film holds a special place in the duo’s history. Infinite Statue describes it as one of the earliest works in which the comic traits that would come to define Laurel and Hardy are fully evident. However, its exact status as the duo’s ‘first’ film varies depending on the source: *The Second Hundred Years* was promoted as their first official joint release, whilst Stan Laurel and Hal Roach cited *Putting Pants on Philip* as the starting point for Laurel & Hardy.

The ‘Infinite Statue’ statuette thus pays tribute to the cinematic origins of Laurel & Hardy, recreating in three dimensions the expressive acting and visual chemistry that would become the duo’s trademark.
