Scooby-Doo
More than a dozen series and forty films – and he never changed.

The category with the most versions – and the easiest answer
Scooby has existed since 1969. In more than fifty years there have been three theatrical films, over a dozen television series and nearly forty home-entertainment films.
You would expect that to be a gifting nightmare. It is not.
The reason: Scooby himself has never meaningfully changed. The brown dog with the teal collar is near-identical from 1969 to today.
What changes from era to era is the tone and style of the stories – not the character design.
In practice: the character himself is the safe choice. You do not need to know which series or film the recipient watched.
Three generations, one dog
It is the widest generational span in the whole shop.
The original series, from the late 1960s.
The 2000s films and series.
The recent series and films.
All three know the same dog. It is one of very few categories where a single gift works at any age – and can be common ground between a grandparent and a grandchild.
The Mystery Machine – the second symbol
Beyond Scooby himself, there is the flower-painted van.
It is a self-contained symbol: people recognise it without seeing any character, and its colours have never changed.
For an adult buyer it is often a more tasteful choice than the character – it works on a mug, a t-shirt or a poster without looking childish.
The new series – and what actually changes
A live-action television series is filming, premiering in 2027. It will have eight episodes and is an origin story: how the group first met.
And for the first time Scooby will be a real dog – not animated, not digital.
Worth knowing though: it is described as a modern reimagining with a heavier atmosphere, and the plot involves a murder. It may not be what a parent expects from Scooby-Doo.
For a gift today nothing changes: everything in circulation is in the classic animated design.
What to choose
- Plush: Scooby by a distance – the strongest line.
- Figures & Funko POP: Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the gang.
- The Mystery Machine: models and designs – the most tasteful for an adult.
- Apparel: children's and adult – it works for both.
- Mugs & homeware: a classic desk gift.
- Posters: the 1970s look is very strong on a wall.
The safest choice: Scooby himself. His design has not changed in over fifty years, so you do not need to know which version they watched – or how old the recipient is.
Age: every age, with no reservations. The "ghosts" in the series always turn out to be people in masks – it is mystery, not horror.
Same audience: Looney Tunes, Snoopy and Garfield.
