Where it is still needed

The category was created under particular circumstances, but its products have permanent uses — and in some cases are mandatory.

Healthcare and care settings. Clinics, dental practices, care units, pharmacies.

Hospital visits and contact with someone immunocompromised — where the mask protects the other person, not you.

Dusty work. Sanding, cutting, renovation, clearing a storeroom. Here the mask is not about viruses — it is about particles that stay in the lungs. And for that you need a mask of the appropriate type, not a plain surgical one.

Travel and settings where rules apply, which vary by destination and period.

What genuinely makes a difference

Fit, not type. A high-specification mask that leaves gaps at the sides protects less than a plain one that fits correctly. Air follows the path of least resistance — and that is the gap, not the filter.

Hand sanitiser needs time. It is not soap. You must rub until it dries — if you wipe your hands, nothing has happened.

With visible dirt, soap and water. Sanitiser works on clean hands; on soiled hands it does not replace washing.

Gloves do not replace hand hygiene. A glove touching the same things transfers the same things — unless it is changed.
