Origin and world of the character (Lore)
Adapted from the famous novel by Neil Gaiman and directed by Henry Selick, the cult film Coraline follows an intrepid young girl as she explores her strange new home, the Pink PalaceApartments. Abandoned by her busy parents, she discovers a small secret door that leads her to the Other World, a seemingly idyllic mirror world where her "Other Mother" and "Other Father" have black buttons sewn in for eyes. The doll Coraline is holding in this figurine is the central object of the evil plot: made in the likeness of children by the Other Mother (the Witch), this doll is used as a spy through its button eyes to peer into Coraline's life and secrets, before luring her into its trap in an attempt to steal her soul. This statuette captures the very essence of the mystery and gothic atmosphere of this animated masterpiece.
