To join the Green Lantern "corps", a Green Lantern must first be chosen by the ring and then swear an oath: "By day or in the dark of night, no evil shall escape my gaze; let those who bow to evil fear the light of the Green Lanterns!" The Justice League of America usually includes a Green Lantern in its ranks.
