JOHN WAYNE – The Duke – 1/6 Scale Standard Figure, 31 cm

Infinite Statue & Collectibles, in collaboration with Kaustic Plastik, has created an articulated figurine dedicated to John Wayne, one of the great icons of the American Western. Named ‘The Duke’, this 1/6 scale figure is directly inspired by the actor’s appearance in the 1953 film *Hondo*. It recreates his Western costume with fabric clothing and a set of accessories characteristic of the character.

The figure features a fully articulated 31 cm body and a realistic likeness of John Wayne based on his appearance in 1953, with a hand-painted finish. His outfit includes, in particular, a distressed fringed jacket, light brown trousers, a red and blue neckerchief, cowboy boots and a hat. The clothing has been deliberately given a weathered finish to recreate the well-worn look of the outfit as seen in the film.

This Standard Version also includes eight interchangeable hands and several weapon accessories: the Colt Single Action Army revolver associated with John Wayne, chambered in .44-40 Winchester; a Winchester 1892 SRC; its sheath; metal spurs; and a holster complete with cartridges. A magnetic stand completes the set, allowing the figure to be displayed stably in various poses.

Character background and lore

Nicknamed ‘The Duke’, John Wayne is particularly associated with the Western genre and became one of the leading stars of American cinema during the 20th century. The 1950s were one of the most significant periods of his career, notably featuring *The Quiet Man*, *Hondo* and *The Searchers*. *Hondo*, released in 1953, ranks amongst the most memorable Westerns of that decade in his filmography.

In *Hondo*, directed by John Farrow, Wayne plays Hondo Lane, a cavalry scout who meets Angie Lowe and her young son as tensions with the Apaches escalate in the region. The film is adapted from the story *The Gift of Cochise* by the writer Louis L’Amour and also stars Geraldine Page, Ward Bond and Michael Pate. It was, moreover, originally shot in 3D, a technique that was booming in the early 1950s.

The ‘The Duke’ figurine by Infinite Statue faithfully recreates this particular portrayal of John Wayne: the cowboy outfit, the weapons, the bandana, the spurs and the weathered clothing are all designed to evoke the appearance of Hondo Lane in 1953.
