Origin and character lore
In the world of Fantastic Beasts, Jacob Kowalski is a big-hearted New York baker and a First World War veteran. His life is turned upside down when he accidentally crosses paths with the magizoologist Norbert Dragonneau, unwittingly drawing him into the hidden world of wizards. Although he is a No-Maj (Muggle), his courage, unwavering loyalty and love for the witch Queenie Goldstein enable him to become a fully-fledged member of the resistance group. In *Dumbledore’s Secrets*, Albus Dumbledore bestows an unprecedented honour upon him by presenting him with this special wand via Lally Hicks. Although it possesses no real power, it enables Jacob to create an illusion at the very heart of the stronghold of Gellert Grindelwald’s followers and symbolises his status as a hero in his own right.
