Origin and character lore
In the rich world of Middle-earth, Bilbo Baggins is a homebody Hobbit from the Shire, leading a peaceful and comfortable life in his hole in Bag End. Nothing seemed to predestine him for adventure until the wizard Gandalf the Grey and a company of thirteen Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield came knocking at his door. Hired as a ‘burglar’ to help them reclaim the kingdom of Erebor and its treasure, which had been seized by the dragon Smaug, Bilbo leaves his routine behind for a journey that will change his life forever. It is during this journey, in the caves of the Misty Mountains, that he discovers the One Ring and displays incredible cunning in his dealings with the creature Gollum.
