The ruler of Latveria, Doctor Doom, joins the Marvel Legends Series collection with this articulated figure inspired by the 1980s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars toy range. Transported to Battleworld alongside the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes and villains, Victor von Doom seeks to seize the power of the Beyonder in order to become the supreme being.

The figure recreates the character’s classic look with his metallic armour, green tunic, hooded cape and iconic mask. This interpretation modernises the retro design of the original Secret Wars figure whilst retaining the colours and elements immediately associated with the Famous Enemy of the Fantastic Four.

Measuring approximately 15 cm, Doctor Doom features multiple points of articulation, as well as a movable head, arms and legs. This design allows for the recreation of various combat, commanding or weapon-wielding poses, creating a dynamic display for your collection.

The figure comes with six accessories: three alternative hands, two pistols and a ‘secret’ shield inspired by the one included with the original Secret Wars toys. The shield features a lenticular effect, directly evoking the system of interchangeable image shields from the vintage collection.

The set is presented in retro-style cardboard packaging featuring an image of the character and a graphic design paying homage to the 1980s Secret Wars range.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Victor Von Doom is the ruler of Latveria and one of the most formidable adversaries in the Marvel universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Fantastic Four No. 5 in 1962. A scientific genius, inventor and powerful practitioner of magic, he combines advanced technology with mystical knowledge to pursue his ambitions.

During his youth, Victor studied alongside Reed Richards. Convinced of the superiority of his own calculations, he ignored Reed’s warnings regarding an experiment designed to communicate with the afterlife. The device exploded, leaving him with a scar on his face. Victor held Reed responsible for the accident, giving rise to their deep-seated rivalry.

After perfecting his knowledge of science and sorcery, Victor returns to Latveria, overthrows the existing government and becomes the country’s absolute ruler. Under the name Doctor Doom, he rules from his castle with the help of robots known as Doombots, often designed to stand in for him or deceive his enemies.

In the original Marvel Super Heroes series *Secret Wars*, the Beyonder transports several heroes and supervillains to an artificial planet called Battleworld. He promises to grant their wishes if they defeat their adversaries. Doctor Doom, however, refuses to remain a mere participant and immediately sets out to understand and then steal the Beyonder’s power.

To achieve his goal, Doom confronts Galactus, amongst others, and uses the equipment on his spaceship to absorb his energy. He then manages to seize the Beyonder’s power and becomes temporarily almost omnipotent, capable of altering reality at will.

Despite this immense power, Doom remains weakened by his own doubts, his pride and his fear of losing control. The heroes eventually defeat him and the Beyonder’s power slips from his grasp, bringing an end to his reign over Battleworld.

This Marvel Legends figure pays tribute to this pivotal period in the character’s history. Its retro look, weapons and secret shield are reminiscent of both the original comic and the famous Secret Wars toy range released in the 1980s.
