Character’s origin and universe

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run takes place in a separate timeline from the first six parts of the saga. The story follows a massive horse race organised across the United States in the late 19th century, bringing together competitors from all over the world.

Diego Brando, nicknamed Dio, is a particularly talented British jockey. Coming from a disadvantaged background, he uses his intelligence, ambition and physical abilities to rise through the social ranks and establish himself as one of the favourites in the Steel Ball Run race.

He quickly becomes one of the main rivals of Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli. His opportunistic behaviour and his desire for absolute victory make him an unpredictable character, capable of forming temporary alliances before pursuing his own objectives.

Diego is also associated with the Stand Scary Monsters, which enables him, amongst other things, to take the form of a dinosaur and to transform other living beings. This ability reinforces his role as a predator and his distinctive visual identity within the Steel Ball Run.
