Character background and lore

In the ruthless world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Giyu Tomioka holds the elite rank of Water Pillars within the Demon Slayer Corps. The first Demon Slayer Tanjiro Kamado encountered, it was he who chose to spare Nezuko and direct the young hero towards his own mentor, thereby breaking the organisation’s strict rules out of pure intuition and compassion.
Giyu is a master of the "Water Breathing" technique. In addition to having mastered the ten original forms of this breathing technique to perfection, his rigour and genius in combat have enabled him to create an exclusive eleventh form: "Calm" (Nagi). This technique allows him to enter a state of total mental calm, instantly neutralising any enemy attack entering his perimeter. Behind his aloof, solitary and taciturn demeanour, which often leads to a lack of understanding among his peers, lies a sense of heroic sacrifice and a deep sense of guilt linked to his past.
