You awaken as you're rescued from the waters of Elynd, a world choked by pollution that's slowly turning everything to plastic. With no memories of your past, you set out on a mission to discover a cure. Play involves travelling between settlements on your boat to search for answers and materials. You choose a previous player to follow, a friend or a stranger, and inhabit the world as they left it. Maybe you will carefully choose someone who made generous choices that offer an advantage, or go in blind and adapt on the fly.
As you progress, you encounter ghostly echoes of the previous player's run as they make key choices that shape the world you inhabit. These choices, in turn, affect what you can do; if they were rude to someone, they may be less cooperative. Alternatively, they may have left a useful item right where you need it. The choices and actions you make subsequently ripple out and affect the world for the players who follow you.
The result is a game that uses asynchronous multiplayer to weave a tapestry of interconnected stories in its world. You need to rely on other players as much as yourself to be successful, and the weight of your actions is increased by their ripple effect, making for a deeply engaging game.
